Puppy's First Day at Home

You’ll spend time getting to know each other and your new puppy will spend time exploring his new space, learn where to go potty and more. Once your puppy’s completed their vaccination schedule, and your vet’s confirmed they can play with other dogs, they’ll need to be walked twice a day. Their first walk is an important event for them, and one you’ll want them to enjoy so they feel confident about future walks. If possible, it's best to take the first week off from work.

New Puppy’s First Night at Home (Surviving the First 24 Hours)

8 to 10 weeks – These puppies can’t hold urine for more than 1-hour. However, you should not leave your dog for long periods of time. Your vet should give your puppy a checkup in the next few days. Too many new places, smells, and people at once may confuse him. Instead, let him explore a designated area where you are, too.

You'll want to get your puppy used to being brushed, especially if it has long hair, as soon as possible. Puppies also tend to breathe fast when they are excited, nervous, exercising and sometimes even dreaming. When they need to go out during the middle of the night, keep them on a lead and put them straight back to bed after. Never tell them off if they toilet in the wrong place, since this may confuse them and make them anxious. It’s much more effective to reward good behaviours and ignore bad ones. You will need a soft puppy brush; a mild puppy shampoo and a puppy toothbrush and toothpaste.

Your puppy’s daytime and night time routines

On your puppy’s first night, it is the ripe time for you to introduce them to all your family members. Furthermore, you should create a new routine as well as new physical boundaries. As a normal thumb rule, older dogs visit their potty at least three to five times daily.

For instance, dogs know that raising their eyebrows makes humans want to care for them – so-called “ puppy eyes” that work without fail. Do dogs have the same response when reunited with their canine friends or siblings? Do they rely on tears as a form of communication with other dogs? It’s definitely something interesting to think about, and the researchers behind this study hope to get the answer to these questions, as well. As well as your puppy sleeping in a crate at night, it’s a good idea to get them used to spending time in one during the day.
